Newly privatized, The Golf Club at South River offered to its members a stunningly beautiful golf course. Desiring Clubhouse facilities that would enhance the resplendence of the course, its owners embarked on a dramatic expansion and renovation of the existing Clubhouse building.
The new jewel of the Clubhouse is its large Great Room, used for parties and events. With its rustic heavy timber framing, huge stone fireplace, generous porches and deep roof overhangs, it evokes a feeling of summers at Lake George. Concealed within the structure are state-of-the-art mechanical, electrical and audio/visual systems, marrying technology to the Adirondack imagery. High windows above deep overhangs allow natural light to pour into the upper level, highlighting the heavy timber structure with a striking play of light and shadow that changes throughout the day. Abundant windows frame spectacular views over the pond and golf course. A new upper level Members’ Lounge is accessible from the Great Room. Along with the Great Room on the main level of the Clubhouse is the Bistro, a casual dining room and bar with a comfortable parlor and fireplace. The existing commercial kitchen was both renovated and enlarged to support the Club’s increased dining capacity.
The existing Clubhouse was reconfigured to improve pedestrian access to the golf course as well as add appealing amenities. First, cart storage was moved out of the lower level and into a new cart storage barn. In its place are now the full service golf pro shop with its state-of-the art swing analysis center, new gracious locker rooms with steam for men and women, a full service massage/treatment room, and a new fitness facility. The Clubhouse is now the centerpiece of a thriving Club community, providing a place to meet, play, dine and celebrate.
