Firm

The cities, towns and shores of the Chesapeake Bay have been the canvas for our award-winning work for more than forty years. In approaching its unique sites - often waterfront or historic - with sensitivity, creativity and craftsmanship, the result has become a portfolio of buildings that are distinctive, functional, and timeless.

For more than thirty years, Leo Wilson has brought expertise, leadership and vision to our firm’s clients. Leo joined Bob Hammond in the early 1990’s and became a partner in 2000. Their shared passion for designing graceful buildings responding to the unique history and character of the site to stand the test of time has drawn a remarkable team of talent to the firm.

We’re proud that Hammond Wilson is viewed as a respected problem-solver by both the local agencies tasked with enforcing regulations and our clients alike. We feel that our history has prepared us well for the future.

When Bob Hammond founded his architectural firm in Annapolis in 1976, his goal was simple: to design buildings with inspired aesthetics and inventive function, while meeting the client’s space and use requirements, responding to the opportunities presented by the site, and addressing regulations. We’re proud to carry on his legacy.

Design Process

We understand that the act of creating beautiful and lasting buildings does not rest with us alone. Our orchestration of each project’s engineers, builders, artisans, landscape architects, and interior designers is a disciplined and collaborative approach. Our success rests in our blending of creativity, collaboration, leadership, and expertise.

For more than forty years, we have taken the challenges and constraints of unique building sites and thoughtfully turned them into opportunity - merging imagination, acumen, and enduring craftsmanship.

Attentiveness

We approach every project, whether residential or commercial, by first listening. Only when we understand our clients’ needs and desires can we begin a successful collaboration.

Artful Collaboration

We understand that our clients want more than the commonplace; more than simply solving a problem; more than what any one person can conceive of individually. By working together, your site becomes a canvas; the building, a masterpiece - beautiful, functional, practical, and highly sustainable.

Permanence

To us, sustainable design means more than just incorporating green, energy-efficient building components into a structure. In designing that are well-planned, timeless in appearance and expertly crafted, we lay the groundwork for permanence and inherent sustainability.
