The view of the water preferred by the owners, up the river as opposed to across its broad expanse, distinguishes almost every main room in the house, and is particularly striking at the entry, looking through the house. Transoms on the waterfront side brighten the view, allowing in more light and creating a more transparent wall. Inside, bold classical arches and columns replace doorways, opening the interior space, while coffered ceiling and detailed moldings keep the rooms defined and intimate.
